Virtual Guided Surgery
Great Plains Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has a state of the art treatment facility and a highly trained staff that cares about your complete experience. Virtual Guided Surgery is an important tool in the oral surgery process.
What is Virtual Guided Surgery?
Virtual Guided Surgery involves the use of three dimensional CAT Scan imaging to better visualize the patient’s internal facial structure without having to surgically expose the area.
Based upon Dr. Nielson’s assessment and the findings of the CAT Scan, a surgical treatment plan is created using specialized computer software. This output from the CAT scan generates a surgical template which helps guide the surgical process.
What are the benefits of Virtual Guided Surgery?
- Predictable, superior outcomes: Virtual Guided Surgery allows the patient and surgeon to be prepared for what they may encounter during the actual surgery. At GPOMS, we utilize this technology for dental implants and face and jaw reconstruction in order to achieve the best possible outcome for each patient.
- Precision: This method accurately pinpoints the area in which we are working. For example, the ideal implant size, shape, and position can be pre-determined. Virtual Guided Surgery also provides us with much needed information like bone density (the quality and quantity), nerve positioning, and the location of the sinuses and nasal cavity.
What about exposure to radiation?
This method of scanning utilizes less than 2% of the radiation that traditional scanning uses. Therefore exposure is minimal and it is a safe option for our patients.
