Dr. Riegy Wood IV grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where his father, Dr. C. Rieger Wood, III is a general dentist and instructor at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry (OUCOD) and his mother, Donna, is a hygienist and chairman of the OUCOD hygiene program. From an early age, dentistry has been a big part Dr. Wood’s life. He grew up working at his father’s private practice, helping with several different jobs from answering the phones to chair side assisting.
Dr. Wood attended the University of Oklahoma for undergraduate studies and dental school. While in dental school, he volunteered at multiple clinics providing free dental care to patients in need. After graduating, he moved to Kansas City and completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. While in residency, Dr. Wood’s training focused on anesthesia, trauma and reconstructive surgery, dentoalveolar, pediatric, and craniofacial surgery. He continues to have special interest in dentoalveolar, implant, and pediatric surgery. He currently maintains hospital privileges at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Shawnee Mission Surgery Center.
Dr. Wood joined Great Plains Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2017 with Dr. Dan Nielson, who was his senior resident during their training. They enjoy working together as a team to provide the highest level of care.
Dr. Wood is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association, and the Kansas 5th District. He enjoys giving back to the community and volunteering with the Mission of Mercy’s in Oklahoma and Missouri. When Dr. Wood is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife Kathryn, playing golf, going to the lake, and spending time with family.
