Dr. Daniel Nielson
Dr. Daniel Nielson is a second-generation dental provider with deep roots in the Kansas City and Olathe communities. After moving to Olathe in 1974, his family became closely connected to the local dental field through his father’s long-standing practice.
Dr. Nielson graduated from Olathe South High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the University of Kansas in 1997. That same year, he became a certified Emergency Medical Technician through Johnson County Community College, going on to serve the Kansas City area for six years with MAST Ambulance. This early experience in emergency care helped shape his calm, patient-focused approach to dentistry and surgery.
He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with honors from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry in 2002 and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. After practicing alongside his father, Dr. Nielson discovered a passion for surgery and advanced care, leading him to pursue specialized training in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Nielson returned to UMKC as a Teaching Fellow before being accepted into the highly competitive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. His extensive hospital-based training included rotations in anesthesiology, internal medicine, general surgery, trauma surgery, and pediatric craniofacial surgery. He completed a rigorous five-year residency, including a preliminary general surgery certificate, with training at Truman Medical Center, St. Luke’s Health System, and Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Today, Dr. Nielson practices exclusively in oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a focus on wisdom teeth removal and dental implants. He is licensed in both Kansas and Missouri and is certified to administer general anesthesia, allowing him to provide safe, comprehensive surgical care in both office and hospital settings. He remains committed to continuing education, with advanced training in implant surgery and bone regeneration.
Dr. Nielson is proud to carry on his family’s legacy of patient care, combining decades of experience with advanced surgical expertise. He is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including serving as President of the Kansas Dental Association.
Outside the office, Dr. Nielson enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and their two children. He stays active in the Olathe community and can often be found cheering on the Jayhawks and supporting his kids’ activities.
