There are many reasons to extract impacted teeth, a decayed tooth, a tooth that failed to erupt properly and wisdom teeth that are coming in at an improper angle. Another very common reason for extraction of impacted teeth is to prepare the mouth for orthodontic treatment. Impacted teeth can damage the teeth surrounding them, so prompt treatment is important. Oral surgeries for an impacted tooth are performed by our oral surgeon, Dr. Nielson, right inside the state of the art patient surgical center at Great Plains OMS. An incision is made to allow elevation of the tissue surrounding the impacted tooth. Then the oral surgeon removes the tooth. With the proper post-operative care essential to prevent infection, recovery time is quicker than most people realize.
