Great Plains OMS makes your first oral and maxillofacial dentistry appointment convenient, inviting, and comfortable. Your initial appointment will consist of an examination and an explanation of your diagnosis as well as treatment options. A parent or legal guardian MUST accompany any patients under the age of 18 years of age at every visit. On occasion, simple surgery without sedation can be performed in our oral surgery center on the same day as the consultation. Based on Dr. Nielson’s evaluation, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
To expedite your oral and maxillofacial dentistry treatment, please provide the following information at your first visit:
- Referral slip, completed by the referring doctor.
- Photo identification.
- Current medication list.
- Insurance identifications for both medical and dental insurance, if you have an active policy.
A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory by state and national standards for patients undergoing IV anesthesia. Remember, nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to surgery. You will also need an adult (person older than age 18) to drive you home.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition or change in your medical history that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).
If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our oral surgery center. If there is not enough time, it may be helpful to pick them up from the referring doctor and bring them to the appointment in our office. If unable to get your films and/or additional films are necessary, Great Plains OMS will be happy to take them at our facility.
At Great Plains OMS, your goals are our goals. Please contact us with any questions you may have prior to your first visit.
