Surgical exposure of teeth for orthodontics is a common procedure to prepare a patient for orthodontic care. For example, if a cuspid tooth does not erupt properly, an oral surgeon can assist your orthodontist by exposing the tooth as it plays an important role in your orthodontic correction. The oral surgeon can expose this impacted tooth when the orthodontist allows space in your treatment. Drs. Nielson and Isaac will work closely with your orthodontist to ensure that there is room for the tooth in its proper placement. This common procedure involves removal of some of the gum tissue at the site of the impacted tooth. Sometimes the orthodontist will request a bracket be placed on the exposed tooth with a small temporary chain. The procedure for exposure of teeth for orthodontics is an in-office procedure at Great Plains OMS.
